The Texas State Bobcats enter this game with plenty of momentum, having won four of their first six games in 2024. Head coach G.J. Kinne has his team playing at a high level, particularly on offense, where the Bobcats have become one of the more dangerous teams in the Sun Belt. Quarterback TJ Finley, a transfer, has settled into the offense and is playing some of the best football of his career, leading a unit that averages over 35 points per game. He’s got weapons all around him, with running back Ismail Mahdi delivering explosive plays in both the rushing and passing game. The Bobcats’ offensive line has done a great job protecting Finley, allowing him to dissect defenses with ease. On defense, Texas State has shown improvement compared to previous years, with a more aggressive scheme that has been able to generate pressure and force turnovers. However, the Bobcats still have some areas to clean up, particularly in the secondary, where they’ve been prone to giving up big plays. Against Old Dominion, Texas State will look to exploit the Monarchs’ defensive struggles, especially through the air. If Finley can continue to connect with his playmakers, and the defense can contain Old Dominion’s offense, the Bobcats should be in a good position to improve to 5-2 on the season.
